Milford Main Street Retaining Wall

Project Details

Client: City of Milford
Product: Soldier Beam and Lagging Wall

The city of Milford, Ohio wanted to expand the available public parking for the bustling historic downtown district. The thriving downtown had seen considerable growth in recent years and reached a point that parking had become an issue. The city purchased a former gas station in hopes of providing the much needed additional parking.

Civil Solutions Associates (CSA) was contacted to study the site and design a parking lot that maximized parking, fit with the downtown, and stayed within budget. The site was located on a steep hillside and boxed in by a roadways to the north, south and east. The west side was restricted by an existing retail building built into the hillside with a parking lot in the rear. In order to provide the maximum amount of parking and still protect the surrounding road-ways and structures, a soldier beam and lagging wall was chosen. CSA worked with the city to choose a stamped and stained concrete lagging that would reflect many of the historic stone structures around town. We also provided a detail for an aluminum wrap for the beams to provide a relatively maintenance free finish. The finished product provided an additional 34 parking spaces, stayed within the city’s budget, and fits right in with the spirit of historic downtown Milford.
